A delegation from the Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP), comprised of librarians and IT professionals, recently undertook a benchmarking and knowledge-sharing visit to Sweden. The visit was facilitated by SPIDER and focused on exploring best practices in library systems, IT security, and IT infrastructure, particularly for research institutions. The delegation visited several renowned academic and governmental institutions, engaging with experts in various fields to gain insights that could be applied to RUPP’s development.
The journey began at the Stockholm University Library, where the delegation explored innovative approaches to library system management and development. This visit provided a comprehensive overview of cutting-edge practices aimed at enhancing the functionality and efficiency of library systems.
Next, the delegation visited the Library at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), where the focus shifted to interactive spaces and data visualization techniques for research collaboration. The insights gained here highlighted how modern libraries can support researchers through advanced technological tools and collaborative environments.
The visit continued further north in Sundsvall, where the delegation met with experts at the Swedish Companies Registration Office (Bolagsverket). Six detailed sessions were conducted, focusing on virtualization and IT security. These discussions provided a deeper understanding of the challenges and solutions associated with maintaining secure and efficient IT systems.
A visit to Borås University Library followed, where the delegation delved into the intricacies of library education and contemporary library systems. This stop offered valuable perspectives on how academic libraries are evolving to meet the needs of modern learners and researchers.
The focus on IT infrastructure was further strengthened during a visit to KTH’s Datacenter. The delegation received informative presentations on LIBRIS and SWEPUB, two key systems for managing library resources and academic publications in Sweden. Additionally, Uppsala University presented the DIVA system, a platform used for managing digital academic content, which provided further insights into effective IT infrastructure for research institutions.
Throughout the visit, the expertise, dedication, and willingness to share knowledge from all the professionals encountered left a lasting impression. The delegation returned to Cambodia with a wealth of knowledge that will significantly contribute to the enhancement of library services and IT education at RUPP. The collaborative ties established during this visit are expected to be nurtured and strengthened in the future, paving the way for continued development and cooperation.
